Educators are making use of the flexibility of the wiki system.

Wikis can be virtually private, with nobody allowed to edit unless registered and approved.

On the other hand, they can be as open as Wikipedia used to be before mild restrictions were placed to minimise vandalism and spam.

Educators can choose their level depending on their perception of the students' skills and sensitivities.
